PLYMOUTH, Mass. (September 25, 2006) – Geoffrey Sisk
seeks to continue his record-setting season this week, when the New
England Pro Golf Tour conducts its inaugural Pinehills Open Sept. 26-28
at Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, Mass.
Sisk, who wrapped up the New England Pro Golf Tour Player of the Year
award last week with his seventh top-10 of the season, seeks to extend
his single-season record to five victories and 14 overall.
In addition, noted amateur Jim Renner of Plainville, Mass., received a
sponsor’s exemption and will be making his professional debut at the
Pinehills Open. The 22-year-old Renner, who graduated from Johnson &
Wales University earlier this year, put together an impressive amateur
resume that included victories at the 2005 New England Amateur, 2004-05
NAIA individual championships and the 2003 and 2005 Francis Ouimet
Memorial Tournament.
The three-day, 54-hole Pinehills Open features a number of former PGA
Tour professionals, as well as some of golf’s rising stars, competing
for a $100,000 purse – with the winner collecting over $15,000. The
Pinehills Open is the second-to-last stop on the 2006 schedule for the
New England Pro Golf Tour.
Players will compete on Pinehills’ Nicklaus Course during the first
and third rounds and on the Jones Course during the second round.
Sisk will attempt to add to a season that already includes a
single-season Tour record four victories. Through nine events, the
resident of Marshfield, Mass., has won a single-season Tour record
$80,208 – nearly $50,000 more than Eric Egloff in second place.
“It’s been a great season to this point, but I want to finish
strong,’’ Sisk said. “I still have a lot of things that I need to
work on.’’
Some of the other favorites this week include Rob Oppenheim of Andover,
Mass., the Tour’s 2005 Player of the Year who has won a pair of
Canadian Tour events in 2006; Egloff, who has three top-three finishes;
Jeff Gallagher of Henderson, Nev., who is the brother of five-time PGA
Tour winner Jim Gallagher Jr. and sits fifth on the money list; and
Michael Carbone of Brewster, Mass., who won last week’s Bonjour
Quebec.
In addition, T.J. Valentine is scheduled to compete on a sponsor’s
exemption. Valentine, the lead teaching professional at Pinehills Golf
Club, was a contestant on The Golf Channel’s Big Break reality series.
The New England Pro Golf Tour is in its sixth season and has helped
prepare golfers for the PGA Tour. The NEPGT schedule features 12 events
and over $1.3 million in prize money. Among the Tour’s previous
success stories is Sean O’Hair, who finished second on the NEPGT money
list in 2004 – a year before earning Rookie of the Year honors on the
PGA Tour.
Following the Pinehills Open, the Tour will conclude its season with the
Greater Atlantic City Open Oct. 3-5 at Twisted Dune in Egg Harbor
Township, N.J.
