Frank Graziosa is a quick learner.

Just last week, Jimmy Jones spotted a flaw with Graziosa's shoulder turn. He put his tip to good use during the first round of the fog-delayed Granite Links Open, firing a course record 8-under 64, his lowest round of the season. He holds a two-stroke lead over Geoff Sisk, who began his pursuit of point leader Rob Oppenheim with a 66. Sam Corden and Justin Goodhue also shot 66, their low rounds this year.

Following a 150-minute fog delay, Sisk, playing in the first pairing with Oppenheim and Nick Cook, was his usual clutch self. An unplayable lie led to bogey at no. 5, but he parlayed seven birdies into his fourth 66 in 12 rounds.

Twelve months ago, Sisk also entered the final event of the season second in the race for the $4,500 PGA Tour Q School tuition check, which is given to the leading point getter this year. He won by two shots and rallied past current PGA Tour winner O'Hair.

"You have to take that confidence that you've had in the past," said Sisk.

Oppenheim, who leads Sisk by 67 points, stood 4-under as he stepped onto the tee of the par-5 18th hole. But he quickly fell back, pulling his 5-wood second shot into deep rough for a triple and a 71. The final three holes saw him drop four shots to Sisk, who finished birdie-birdie-par.

Graziosa, a rookie on Tour, set Granite Links course record and bested his previous Tour low by four shots. His 64 included no bogeys, one of just two such rounds on day one.

"I've been fortunate to play with some of the best players out here--I'm learning," said Graziosa, whose golfing resume includes an appearance in last year's Buick Championship via Monday qualifying.

"I've got to stop giving out my information," joked Jones, as he signed for 71. "I'm getting my butt kicked."

Corden, a runner-up in Hartford this summer, tallied six 3s and a birdie-2 on his card. Two of those threes came on two of Granite Links' four par-5s, which he played 5-under.

Justin Goodhue's 66 included a 6-under 30 on the front, the low front nine score on day one. Goodhue made every cut during a successful rookie year in 2004, but a balky putter has led to five missed cuts in nine events in 2005.

First round play was suspended at 6:29. Twenty-nine players have yet to complete their first round, which will resume at 7:30 Thursday morning.
