Round One Buick Championship

Cromwell, CT---On a day in which 74 players shot par or better, CGTers Matt Doyle and Joey Iaciofano turned in over par rounds on a relatively benign day one of the Buick Championship at TPC River Highlands.

Matt Doyle, of West Simsbury, CT, led the CGT charge on day one, carding a 2-over-par 72.

Doyle's up and down round of six bogeys and four birdies was the result of shaky ballstriking.

According to Shotlink, he found just 50% of the fairways and less than 38% of the greens in regulation.

He enters Friday's second round tied for 96th. The projected cut (the low 70 and ties) figures to hover near one or two-over-par.

Joey Iaciofano, competing in his maiden PGA Tour event, struggled to an opening 11-over 81 on Thursday.

Two poor stretches comprised the bulk of his poor play. Teeing off of no. 10, he played holes 12-15 6-over. He then bogeyed five, six and doubled seven to record one of just two scores in the 80s.

Iaciofano tees off the first tee at 8:50 Friday morning. Doyle begins his round at 9:00 am on the 10th tee.

Former British Open champion Ben Curtis shot a blistering 6-under 64 and holds the first round lead with 1999 John Deere Classic winner J.L. Lewis.
