Samoset Open Divots

The Champion’s Collection

  • Eric Egloff became the sixth winner this year to post all three rounds in the 60’s (66-66-69).

  • It has been quite a rapid turn around for Eric Egloff. Just last week, he shot rounds of 75-80 to miss the cut in the New England Open.

  • On the week, he played Samoset’s three par 5’s in a collective 8-under par, highlighted by two eagles on the fourth hole, including one in the final round.

  • With the win, Eric recorded his seventh top fifteen finish in nine events.

Miscellaneous Madness

  • Under windy conditions, Saturday’s final round scoring average was 73.9. The low round of the day belonged to Matt Donovan, who managed a solid 2-under par 68 despite a double bogey on the 478 yard, par 4, 18th hole.

  • Through nine events, Paul Dickinson, Billy Downes, Justin Goodhue, and Sean O’Hair are the only players who have made every cut this season.

  • Sean O’Hair’s streak of consecutive top five finishes came to end at eight this week, as he completed play in a tie for 17th.

  • Corey Harris and Geoff Sisk, who were paired together during the first two rounds, combined to shoot a best ball score of 11-under par 59 in Thursday’s first round.

  • Scott Hawley could very well be the hottest golfer on tour right now. Since the Sterling Open, he has recorded four top fifteen finishes, two top three’s, and has racked up just under $16,000 in earnings. During this time, he also posted a clutch second place tie in the Canadian Tour’s season ending Bay Mill Championship, highlighted by a 6-under par 66 in the final round. This performance secured his playing privileges for the 2005 season.

  • David Gunas, who tied for 31st week, will make his television debut on the Golf Channel’s “Big Break 2” this Tuesday at 9 pm.

Quote of the week:

“I’m just starting to play better. I just try to be patient.

I just tried to stay out of my own way. It’s a big confidence booster.”

-Eric Egloff, two-time defending Samoset Open Champion, commenting on the progress he has made, his mental strategy this week, and what this win could do for him confidence-wise with Q-School just around the corner.
