O’Hair battles winds, shoots 64 to grab GBO 2nd round lead

Cleveland star in position for 2nd state open title of season

Bangor, ME-As players all around him struggled to deal with excessively windy conditions, young gun Sean O’Hair catapulted his way to the top of the Greater Bangor Open leaderboard on the strength of a sizzling 5-under par 64.

Despite playing the majority of his round when the winds were at their most severe, the Aston, PA resident strategically maneuvered his way around Bangor Municipal Golf Course en route to taking his first 36 hole lead of the summer.

His two-day total of 7-under par leaves him with one shot lead over fellow Cleveland Tour members Justin Goodhue and overnight leader Rick Karbowski, who followed up his opening 63 with an even par 69.

Eric Egloff, the 1995 GBO champion, registered a 4-under 65 on day two and lurks two shots further back at 4-under par. The tandem of Matt Donovan and defending champion Bill Link, meanwhile, completed 36 holes at 4-under and occupy 7th position.

While much of the field was backing up as a result of the trying playing conditions, Christian Bartolacci staged a second round rally as he bounced back from an opening 72 with a 3-under par 66 that leapfrogged him over 21 players into a tie for 17th place at even par.

Tomorrow’s final round figures to be a shootout as 15 players are currently within six shots of O’Hair, who just last month came from six shots back to win the Vermont Open on the strength of a final round 66.

Competitors will be competing for a purse of $50,000 and a winner’s check of $11,000.
In addition, the top nine finishers and ties qualify for the Chrysler Shot Skills Shootout, which will be held immediately after the conclusion of the tournament. Following several skills challenges, the overall winner of the shootout will receive a $4,000 check into PGA Tour Qualifying School
