Sisk and Zackheim set to do battle again

Sutton, MA-We should have seen this coming. Geoff Sisk and Eli Zackheim finished round two of the Mass Open tied at 5-under par yesterday and will square off in the final pairing for the second time in less than three weeks. Sisk prevailed the last time they met in the Atkinson Open as he took advantage of Zackheim’s untimely double bogey down the stretch to win by one.

Sisk dissected Pleasant Valley Country Club with a bogey free round of 3-under 68 and Zackheim fired a 2-under par 69 as both players stand one shot ahead of first round leader Noah Zelnik, who struggled to an even par 71. Fellow Cleveland Golf Tour members Paul Dickinson and Tele Wightman sit one shot further back at 3-under par. Eric Egloff is also positioned nicely following a 3-under par 68 which leaves him just four shots back, tied for 6th place with Corey Harris.

Zackheim’s round got off to an inauspicious start as he made the turn in 2-over par 37. He caught fire on the backside, though, recording five birdies against just one bogey to come home in 4-under par 31. Zackheim is hoping that the momentum and experience he has gained over the past three weeks will serve him well tomorrow as he attempts to earn New England’s most prestigious title in his first appearance while at the same time preventing Sisk form winning it for an unprecedented fourth time.

The two day cut fell at 7-over par 147 with less than a third of the 150 man field advancing to tomorrow’s final round. Of the 47 competitors who made the cut, 21 call the Cleveland Golf Tour home, a testament to both the depth and quality of the tour.

The final round showdown for the Clarence G. Cochrane memorial trophy figures to be more than just a two person race as nine players are within five shots of Sisk and Zackheim.
