West Boylston, MA-Rick Karbowski, a teaching professional at Cyprian Keyes GC (Boylston, MA), teamed with head professional John O’Hara recently to capture the New England Pro-Assistant Championship at Wachusett Country Club on the strength of a final round 11-under par 61 and an 18-under par 126 total.

Following an opening round of 7-under par 65, Karbowski got his final round off to an auspicious start, to say the least, recording two birdies and an eagle in his first three holes to set the tone for the remainder of the day.

The quick start was not a fluke, as the pair continued their incredibly hot play en route to going 6-under par through five holes and a mind boggling 11-under par after twelve.

“John made my life easy today,” said Karbowksi, who won $2,350 for his stellar play. “He was always right there so I could just aim.”

Despite their scintillating final round, the duo won by a mere two strokes over the team of Steven Demmer and Josh Hillman of the Kittanset Club (Marion, MA). Clutch birdies by O’Hara on the 15th and 16th holes provided the final margin.

“It was a team effort, it really was,” said Karbowski, the reigning New England Open Champion.
