Karbowksi Falls Short At Champions Tour Q School
12-under effort over final four rounds not enough
November 22 by Dominic Dastoli

St. Augustine, FL-In the end, Rick Karbowski (Worcester, MA) simply couldn’t overcome his slow start at the final stage of Champions Tour Qualifying School.

Following rounds of 74-73 in the first two rounds at The King & The Bear Golf Village, Karbowski played the final 72-holes in 12-under par, including a sizzling 8-under par 64 in the fifth round that gave him a legitimate shot of earning one of 15 Champions Tour cards.

Karbowski began the final round tied for 32nd, in need of another low score. But a 2-under par 70 was all he could muster. He finished tied for 33rd at 11-under par 423, five shots back of the final qualifier.

On the week, Karbowski, a teaching professional at Cyprian Keyes, recorded 20 birdies but also tallied nine bogeys and a double bogey.

Champions Tour Qualifying School has been kind to native New Englanders through the years. Following standout amateur and professional careers in New England, Allen Doyle and Dana Quigley advanced through the qualifying school and are now two of the most successful players on the over 50 circuit.
