Karbowski Advances to Finals of Champions Tour Q School

Final Round 73 just enough to earn final qualifying spot

November 5th by Dom Dastoli

Lake Buena Vista, FL-After spending the entire summer competing against players nearly half his age, Rick Karbowski (Worcester, MA) finally got the chance to tee it up with some of his peers this week in the first stage of the Champions Tour Qualifying School.

Karbowski began his quest for a spot on the Champions Tour in fine style, carding a 70 in the opening round to seize the early lead.

Subsequent rounds of 77 and 74, however, left him tied for the last of 18 available qualifying spots heading into Friday’s final round.

Like he has proven throughout his illustrious career, Karbowksi responded like a true champion, firing a closing 73 to capture the final spot with no shots to spare.

Karbowksi now moves on to the six-round, 108-hole final stage at The King and The Bear World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida beginning on November 17th.  Out of a field of more than 100 competitors, only 15 cards will be issued.

Joe Clark (Holderness, NH), who also spent time on the Cleveland circuit this summer, missed advancing to the final stage by four shots with rounds of 79-72-73-75
